The first trading week of 2016 saw investors heading for the hills as concerns over China’s economy jumped to the fore with increased fervor and tensions in the Middle East continued to rise. Each of the indices posted sharp losses, all but one in excess of 5%.

My Year-End Scorecard
As I consider myself to be a long-term investor, I take short-term disappointment in stride…not a few months does a successful investment make. Having said that, periodic performance reviews should be undertaken to ensure the ‘story’ that lead you to invest in the business in the first place has not materially changed (i.e. obsolescence, regime change etc.) and the businesses are still attractive for the long haul. The Week That Was
The last (and abbreviated) trading week of 2015 saw all but two of the indices closing lower. A December turnaround in the German market saw that country’s DAX index overtake Japan’s Nikkei 225 to emerge the top performer of 2015 with a strong return of +9.56%.
